Italy and Slovenia United for the European Capital of Culture 2025

A cross-border project uniting the twin cities of Nova Gorica and Gorizia and the prestigious title of European Capital of Culture.

Two separate but united cities, Nova Gorica built in Slovenia from scratch in the aftermath of World War Two, and Gorizia in Italy with its historical significance and now a cultural, administrative and financial centre. GO! Borderless aims to bring the two cities together, breaking down borders.

At Kumbe, we are creating the whole of the digital platform which will be completed for 2025 but the first version is already online.

Naturally, the first step on this journey was to create an innovative cross-border strategy that can help both regions to develop.

Borderless, Wireless: a Digital Platform

A Digital Platform This was our starting point. We worked with the cities of Nova Gorica and Gorizia to define the main objective of creating a single access point for all of the activities and information relating to the GO! European Capital of Culture 2025 project.

Underpinning this major project were the values of GO! 2025 which are:

  • Community,
  • Creativity,
  • Art,
  • Cross-Border

The new GO! 2025 web portal will be a digital destination for all experiences. Offering simple, accessible, customisable, and experiential navigation.

Roadmap 2023-2026

A project of this importance and prestige requires an ongoing production process, structured into several stages GO! 2025 is planned around a 3-year roadmap with 4 distinct macro stages:

  1. 2023, First version of go2025.eu released, with the aim of giving users an initial landing page for collecting information and finding out about events behind held
  2. 2024, Ready to Go: a more comprehensive and higher-performance version of the web portal, with the addition of accommodation, services, and experiences available for purchase.
  3. 2025, Borderless Wireless
  4. 2026 Go Forward: like all the best projects, the aim is to maintain the site and keep it supplied with content over time, making it useful for users.

The finish line is not the year dedicated to the European Cross-Border Capital of Culture, the aim is for it to also act as a starting point for promoting this border region with its host of special features, attractions, and experiences to enjoy.

GO! 2025 becomes a destination with so many different aspects to discover.

Phase One

In December 2023 the GO! 2025 web portal went live online, presenting the programme, projects and events, as well as all of the latest news about the European Cross-Border Capital of Culture 2025.

An important first milestone in the process of creating a digital hub that channels and reorganises both original content and content from the surrounding tourist destinations: Friuli Venezia Giulia (FVG), Aquileia, Slovenia.

Focussing on Accessibility

Special attention has been given to the website’s accessibility. This has been possible by optimising the coding and integrating a widget designed to assist with a range of disabilities (physical disabilities, sight impairment, colour-blindness, dyslexia, cognitive and learning difficulties, seizures and epilepsy, ADHD).
